Education

Originally from the US, Marilyn studied at Oakland University in Michigan, where she completed a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, and a Masters of Music in Piano Pedagogy.  She received the Jennifer Scott Memorial Award and OU Matilda Award for her work in Piano Pedagogy (private piano instruction).

Teaching Style

Marilyn loves to work with students of all ages - she has worked with gifted 4 year old students, as well as passionate beginners in their 80s! She has worked with many students that struggle in a traditional school setting, and believes that music can often be the tool that helps students to find their own voice, and grow in their confidence.  She loves to tailor each lesson to suit the student’s needs and interests, selecting music and curriculum goals that can help each growing musician to thrive.

Performance Background

Marilyn has performed extensively as a soloist, as featured pianist with the Troy Metro Orchestra, and worked as a church pianist and choral accompanist.  She has also played for many weddings and events, both as a soloist and in ensembles.

Marilyn is passionate about improv and composing. She loves folk/traditional music, such as Irish fiddle music and American bluegrass style.  Some of her favorite Classical composers are Chopin, Schumann and Debussy.
