Piano Lessons Dublin was founded in 2013 by Slovenian pianist Anja Kuncic. She started giving her first lessons to children when she was only in secondary school and it has been part of her life ever since. After years of teaching in different music schools and developing herself as a contemporary musician, Dublin inspired her to create her own school, incorporating her own personal approach and fresh ideas.

Anja believes that music should be enjoyed no matter the level or age. Therefore, she always encourages her students to explore and develop their own interests in music. She guides them through this process and equips them with the tools that will allow them to achieve their desired goals in music.

Music Education

Anja started playing piano at the age of seven in a classical music school in her hometown Ljubljana, Slovenia. Her first ten years of musical endeavours were focused primarily on getting to know the world of classical music through the guidance of an established Slovenian piano teacher Darja Kajfež. As one of the most talented students in her class, at the age of 12, Anja already performed a solo classical concert.

Anja continued her music education at the Conservatory of Music Ljubljana with a renowned Croatian classical and jazz pianist Veljko Glodic and majored in jazz piano. This was the beginning of her passion for jazz that she is still exploring today. The conservatory not only gave Anja the opportunity to further develop her piano playing skills but has broadened her overall understanding and knowledge of music, through studying the advanced theory of classical as well as jazz music, arranging and improvisation.

Teaching

Anja has experience in teaching children of a very young age as well as adults. Throughout her studies, she was giving private piano lessons, while also teaching for various music schools in Slovenia, such as Muzikaviva and Gvido. Apart from piano lessons, Anja also specialises in teaching music theory, either to individuals or small groups.

Playing and performing

As an experienced accompanist to singers, instrumentalists, and choirs, Anja has performed at diverse venues such as The Slovenian National Philharmonic Hall, Slovenian Parliament, Paraninfo Theatre in Madrid, RTE Radio Dublin, The Sugar Club. In Ireland, she regularly accompanies choirs in concerts, festivals, and international competitions, such as Cork International Choral Festival, Navan Choral Festival, New Ross Choral Festival, among others.

Since 2013 she has been collaborating with a Slovenian mezzo-soprano Tina Silc, with whom she performed classical recitals in Spain, Slovenia, and Ireland. In 2017 she was honoured to also accompany one of the principals of the Slovenian National Opera, tenor Branko Robinsak, at a Christmas concert in Ljubljana.

For many years, Anja was a regular member of the Big Band Vrhnika and she also got an opportunity to play with the Slovenian Radio Big Band at the 2006 Slovenian Song Contest.

She has also worked with the Dublin-based Downtown Big Band, the Irish Film & Pops Orchestra, and most recently with The Orchestra of Ireland for the first Irish tour of Home Alone in concert. She regularly appears in musical theatre, in and around Dublin,  cooperating with Irish music societies and schools.
